Grover W. Dimond Associates papers, 1912-1971.

The collection contains original drawings for nearly 100 structures designed by the firm from the 1950s to the 1970s. Included are blueprints for the St. Paul Capitol Skyway Building, Lakewood Community College (1971), Griggs-Midway Building in St. Paul (1955-56), and the Hoerner Waldorf Corporation Building in St. Paul (1960). In addition, the collection has plans of buildings by other firms, including the State School for Girls (Sauk Centre MN, 1912) by Clarence H. Johnston, Sr., and Dayton's Department Store (1963) by Victor Gruen of Los Angeles.

Grover Dimond, Sr., was born in 1888. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1912 and was active in his firm for more than thirty years. In 1941, he established Grover Dimond Associates, a St. Paul architectural and engineering firm which was eventually taken over by his son. Grover Dimond died in 1977. Clarence Johnston was born in Waseca County MN. After apprenticeship training in architecture in the St. Paul offices of A. Radcliffe and E.P. Bassford, Johnston studied architecture at MIT and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Johnston worked for Herter Brothers, and C.B. Atwood in New York City, where he also helped found the New York Sketch Club (later known as the Architectural League of New York).
